For this course, my fellow students and I, performed an exploratory study on the integration of a smart spice rack within the kitchen environment to enhance spice identification and selection during cooking. We developed a smartspice rack prototype that employs Internet of Things (IoT) technology and Artificial Intelligence, enabling voice input to facilitate an intuitive cooking experience. The prototype was evaluated with a Wizard of Oz approach, a System Usability Scale (SUS) and qualitative feedback. Results show that participants praised the system’s enchanting interface, ease of use, and the ability to inspire culinary creativity. However, they also highlighted the need for more flexible input options, and an integrated display for visual feedback. This study contributes to the fields of cognitive psychology, human-computer interaction, and smart kitchen design by demonstrating the feasibility of enhancing the cooking experience through enchanting, efficient technology.
